About Us
The Box Steam Brewery was founded in 2004 in the village of Box by Mark Hempleman-Adams
and Marshall Ewart, using a steam-fired copper – hence the name. Box has long had strong
associations with the railway, since Isambard Kingdom Brunel constructed his famous tunnel
through the village, after which our flagship ale, “Tunnel Vision” is named.
In May 2006, the brewery was purchased by Ken and Jenny Roberts, who had been selling all
three of the Box Steam Brewery’s beers with great success from their country pub near
Bradford-on-Avon. As Ken commented at the time, “I enjoyed the beer so much I bought
the brewery”.
The brewery is now run by Gordon King and Andrew Roberts, pictured opposite.
Gordon is qualified as a maths teacher and Andrew as an accountant, so when the opportunity of running the brewery came up we both leapt at the chance to try something completely different (and some might say more exciting!)
Both of us have worked in pubs for a number of years and so we are familiar with the unique challenges the industry can present. We were fortunate enough to be able to build upon the experience of Mark and Marshall by brewing alongside them for three months before taking on the challenge of producing ‘Great Western Ales’.
We now plan to develop the brewery further by committing ourselves to even higher standards of product quality and customer service. We are always available to meet your needs and are often able to deliver at extremely short notice.
We look forward to working with you and supplying you with our ‘Great Western Ale’!
